PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers were on their way to another loss on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Once again missing so many pieces and just playing out the string, the Sixers fell 126-113, but coach Nick Nurse was still fighting for his guys out on the floor.
Adem Bona, who had a helluva night, was called for a goaltend on a Taurean Prince layup for the Bucks. Nurse didn’t like the call and he was hit with a first technical foul. Then, Nurse said something else that caught the ears of the officials and he was hit with a second tech 18 seconds later leading to an ejection.
Afterward, Nurse explained what happened when he was ejected in the fourth.
“Bona blocked the shot. They called a goaltend,” Nurse started. “I looked up on the screen, and then I saw it. I was like, I did a wave, and the ref at the other end, JB (DeRosa), I guess saw me do the wave. That was the first one. And then when Mitchell (Ervin) walked by me, and the second time, I said, open your eyes. I got my second T. I kinda mumbled it. I didn’t really say it very loud. I didn’t raise my voice all night.”
Nurse deserves credit for continuing to fight for his guys on a nightly basis. This has been a nightmarish season, none of this stuff matters in the grand scheme of things, but he has still been able to step up and lead this young team as they move forward with the season.
The Sixers will play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
