Doing big things can lead to big things and that’s what we have with outgoing defensive end Jack Sawyer. After some huge plays (none bigger than the strip sack and fumble return for a touchdown vs. Texas) during the College Football Playoff national championship run, Sawyer received another honor for Ohio sports legends on Tuesday.
Sawyer was on hand in Cleveland to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the 2025 home opener for the Guardians ahead of their matchup with the Chicago White Sox.
If you didn’t get a chance to see Sawyer launch another silver bullet ahead of the 2025 NFL draft, in which he is expected to be a top-half pick, we’ve got the video for you, thanks to the “X” account of WBNS’ Adam King. Truth be known, it’ll never go down as one of the best darts in opening pitch history, but it’s still a great honor.
Watch as Sawyer steps to the mound in Progressive Field and throws the first pitch well over home plate. I guess it should be no surprise that his aim was long rather than short especially with the training and conditioning program at Ohio State in combination with all of the adrenaline likely pumping through his veins.
Now that the attempt to throw a strike in front of thousands of fans and the camera, Sawyer can turn his focus to the upcoming NFL draft later this month. We’ll have plenty of coverage of that annual spectacle leading up to, during, and after all the hoopla in Green Bay.
