EDMONTON – Just another day in the office.

The Edmonton Oilers didn’t make any buzzer-beater deals on Trade Deadline day. Regardless of that, they have made some recent announcements that are worth taking a look at.

Earlier on Friday, the team announced that Evander Kane would miss the rest of the regular season. This means he will play out the year on LTIR. Given that the Oilers didn’t make any additional moves to clear cap space, this news made a lot of sense.

Additionally, they made a minor roster move on Friday afternoon. They announced that Cam Dineen was being loaned back to the Bakersfield Condors.

Dineen and Max Jones were recalled on Wednesday (Dineen under emergency conditions). The acquisition of Jake Walman gives the Oilers at least six healthy defenders, regardless of Mattias Ekholm’s status. This meant that Dineen could be sent back down to Bakersfield.

The 26-year-old defender played a solid game for the Oilers on Thursday night. Kris Knoblauch praised his performance in his post-game comments.

“He’s a tremendous skater,” Knoblauch stated. “He didn’t look nervous with the puck at all. I thought he had a heck of a game.”

Specifically, when it came to playing Dineen in overtime, Knoblauch had this to say about that decision.

“That 3-on-3 (play) suits him,” Knoblauch revealed. “Just with the way he skates (and) he’s able to check. That was Paul’s decision to play (Dineen) and I absolutely support it.”

Dineen finished the game with one block, one takeaway, and four shots in 14:56 of ice time. The young defender will look to continue his solid season in the AHL.
