Does top OL prospect Will Campbell’s new arm length measurement impact the Jaguars in the NFL draft?
Perhaps of interest to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall pick, top offensive line prospect Will Campbell’s arm length checked in at 33 inches at the LSU pro day this past week.
This is of significance because 33-inch arms are typically the minimum length that NFL teams look for in offensive tackles.
At the NFL combine, however, Campbell’s arm length was 32-5/8 inches. At that measurement, Campbell’s arm length was in the 7th percentile among offensive tackles.
So the big question surrounding Campbell during this pre-draft process has been, is he a guard or a tackle at the NFL level? But if you ask Campbell, the arm length conversation doesn’t matter.
“For two years, nobody had any measurements on me and nobody said anything about my play,” Campbell said Wednesday, via Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. “So now all of a sudden, an arm length decides if I’m a good player or not? I think it’s BS.”
How the Jaguars view Campbell–as a guard or tackle–is not known. If they see him as a guard, then value-wise, taking him at fifth overall may not be the prudent move.
For what it’s worth, since 2021, the LA Rams–where GM James Gladstone was previously–have drafted four offensive tackles during that four-year span, and all of them had arm lengths of at least 33 inches.
Even after making several additions along the offensive line in free agency, further adding to that unit in the draft still very much seems to be in play for the Jaguars.
The free agent signings helped raise the floor of that unit, but adding competition or looking for longer-term answers shouldn’t be off the table either. In addition to that, these also weren’t free agent deals that should impact the Jaguars’ approach at the position either.
Campbell could be on the New England Patriots’ radar at pick No. 4, given their need at tackle. Armand Membou is another potential top 10 pick along the offensive line as well, who we’ve seen mocked to the Jaguars at pick No. 5 occasionally.
