The Chicago Bears will soon be on the clock in the 2025 NFL draft and, with plenty of speculation of where they could go in the first round, not every best fit is going to be found with a team’s top selection.
Most recently, the Bears have been a popular landing spot for Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who was the Heisman Trophy runner-up last season, but not everyone feels he’s the best fit for the team.
On Monday, ESPN released their best fits for each team and the right draft prospect who would fit in perfectly during their rookie season. While Jeanty is the hottest running back prospect in the draft, Matt Bowen listed a different player at the position who could be a game-changer for the Bears alongside veteran D’Andre Swift: Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson.
Johnson, who rushed for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024, didn’t have the season that Jeanty had, but it was nothing to scoff at. Johnson’s bruising style, along with surprising speed, would make him a perfect fit as a between the tackles runner to pair with Swift.
The Bears invested heavily in their offensive and defensive lines this offseason, and now they’ll hope to be able to address their rushing attack by adding a top prospect in this year’s draft class. In a year where running backs have grown in value, there’s plenty to choose from in a deep and very talented class. But having two picks at the top of the second round, Johnson could be the best value pick for the Bears next month.
Chicago can continue to address their offensive line in the first round and hope to land their running back complement in Johnson in the second round, rather than spend a Top-10 pick on the hot commodity in Jeanty.
