With the official addition of several new Raiders, they all got their numbers. Here they are in all their glory, along with what happened with the player who used to wear the number and why that number is important to the playerr.
QB Geno Smith — 7
Previously worn by: Tre’von Moehrig (signed with Panthers)
Significance: Geno Smith wore number 7 when he came into the league with the Jets and again during his five seasons in Seattle.
S Jeremy Chinn — 22
Previously worn by: RB Alexander Mattison (unsigned free agent)
Significance: Chinn wore No. 2 at Southern Illinois. Which kicker Daniel Carlson currently wears for the Raiders. He wore No. 11 (1+1=2) last season for the Commanders. That number is currently worn by WR Tre Tucker. for So, 22 would figure to be the next best thing.
S Lonnie Johnson Jr — 32
Previously worn by: WR Tyreik McAllister (switched to No. 13)
Significance: Johnson wore No. 32 when he first came into the league with the Texans and last season in Carolina. He wore No. 6 at Kentucky which is currently taken by P AJ Cole.
CB Eric Stokes — 38
Previously worn by: Free
Significance: None that I can see. He wore 21 throughout his NFL career in Green Bay. That number is not currently being worn by a Raiders player. And he wore 41 and 27 at Georgia.
LB Elandon Roberts — 52
Previously worn by: Free
Significance: He wore No. 52 for four seasons in New England and won two Super Bowls in that number. Then when he had the chance to switch to No. 52 with the Dolphins, he took it.
