In a surprising move, the Oilers appear to be acquiring a player who wasn’t on anyone’s trade board.
David Pagnotta and Elliotte Friedman reported that a deal between the Oilers and San Jose Sharks is in the works. The two teams connected in the summer when the Oilers sent Cody Ceci to California in exchange for Ty Emberson.

It appears as though the Oilers will be trading for left-handed defender Jake Walman.
The return is not yet known at the time of this writing. There is some chatter that the deal involves a first-round pick, but that is not yet confirmed.
According to a report from Ryan Rishaug on X, the Oilers could be sending a conditional draft pick and a prospect.
Sheng Peng reports that Walman is not taking part in line rushes during warmups for the Sharks game on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche.
Stay tuned for more details.
Walman was a 2014 3rd-round draft selection by the St. Louis Blues. He was traded to the Sharks this past summer for future considerations.
The 29-year-old defender is having a career season. In 50 games, he has 32 points while averaging 23:11 a night. Walman led the Sharks in total time on ice per game, powerplay time on ice per game (2:46), and penalty kill time on ice per game (2:40).
Walman has another year remaining on his contract after this season. He has a $3.4 million cap hit.
