The NHL trade deadline is just two days away, and things are getting more serious. There have already been trades over the last several days, but the Buffalo Sabres have yet to join in the action. However, with the Sabres being at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and open to making moves, that could change shortly.

Sabres forward Dylan Cozens is one of the Sabres’ top trade candidates as we continue to inch closer to deadline day. The 24-year-old center has been the subject of trade rumors all season, and it is not stopping with the deadline just about here.

In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insiders Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBrun mentioned that the Calgary Flames still have interest in Cozens:

“Conroy, meanwhile, would love to add a young center who can grow with his group and has shown interest in Buffalo’s Dylan Cozens, among others.”

Hearing that the Flames are still being connected to Cozens is not surprising in the slightest. While they added Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee in late January from the Philadelphia Flyers, it is apparent that they still could use a boost on offense. Adding a big top-six center like Cozens would make a lot of sense for them because of it.

If Calgary acquired Cozens, he could be a strong fit on their second line with Farabee and Blake Coleman. In addition, he would give them another option for their power play.

However, for the Sabres to deal Cozens to the Flames or any other team, they will want a sizeable return. While he has had a down year, he is still a young forward who had 31 goals and 68 points in 81 games back in 2022-23. He is also signed until 2029-30, which adds to his value. Cozens being locked up beyond this season also means that the Sabres do not need to rush a move and can wait for the best offer.

We will need to wait and see if Cozens gets moved by the Sabres to the Flames or any other club from here.
