Saints host TAMU defensive lineman on top 30 visit

Here’s another addition to the New Orleans Saints’ list of official 30 visits before the 2025 NFL draft. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports that Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner is visiting the Saints on Saturday; he’s commonly projected to be picked in Rounds 2 or 3 of this year’s draft.

Turner suffered a stress fracture in his leg last summer which never healed after a rod was inserted to brace it. He played through that injury during Texas A&M’s 12-game season but had to sit out of drills at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine to let it heal. He did perform at the Aggies’ pro day this week, and now will get a longer look in New Orleans. It makes sense for the Saints to bring him in given that uncertainty. They’ll get to spend more time with him in meetings and have their doctors fully evaluate his leg.

As for his fit on the depth chart? Turner projects to play a similar role to Bryan Bresee as a penetrating 3-technique working against the guard’s outside shoulder, but he has experience lining up all over the formation. He’s played head-over-center at nose tackle and also started out wide, aiming to bend the corner against an offensive tackle. Brandon Staley and his staff could have a really unique role in mind for him.
