Seahawks’ most exciting potential Week 1 opponents

The NFL will release the full 2025 season schedule in a televised primetime event on Wednesday evening. The Seattle Seahawks have had their complete opponents list for a while now, but the order of their Week 1-18 matchups will be officially revealed. With that in mind, we’ve hand-picked our three favorite potential Week 1 opponents.

San Francisco 49ers (at Lumen Field)

Radio host Dave “Softy” Mahler is reporting that the Seahawks will open the 2025 season at home against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, September 7th. If true, it would mark the fourth consecutive campaign the Seahawks have opened at Lumen Field. Last year, Seattle lost 36-24 at home to San Francisco, their third-straight loss to their NFC West rival at Lumen FIeld.

New Orleans Saints (at Lumen Field)

Former New Orleans Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr recently announced his retirement due to a chronic shoulder injury. First-year head coach Kellen Moore will now oversee a three-man position battle between inexperienced quarterbacks Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener. That would make the Saints an appetizing Week 1 matchup.

Jacksonville Jaguars (at EverBank Stadium)

You typically prefer to start at home, but if the Seahawks start on the road, a friendly environment at EverBank Stadium would be ideal. The Jacksonville Jaguars have an inexperienced first-year head coach in Liam Coen. Mike Macdonald would like his chances against an unpredictable Jaguars squad.
