Seahawks named NFC West’s “biggest loser”

The Seattle Seahawks had their most explosive offseason in recent memory. General manager John Schneider oversaw massive changes, trading quarterback Geno Smith and DK Metcalf. Schneider brought in Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp to replace them. Head coach Mike Macdonald fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and appointed Klint Kubiak in his place.

Sweeping overturn across the roster and coaching staff has made the Seahawks a difficult team to predict heading into 2025. The Bleacher Report recently went division by division, identifying the biggest offseason losers across the league. It’s safe to say they weren’t impressed with the Seahawks’ offseason, naming them the NFC West’s loser.

This offseason, the Seattle Seahawks added older or less established players at key positions,” Moe Moton wrote, noting the Seahawks expect a 32-year-old Kupp and 33-year-old DeMarcus Lawrence to play notable roles.

BR also notes that replacing Smith with Darnold carries significant risk. “On one hand, Darnold is coming off his best year, a Pro Bowl campaign with the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks had limited options on the free-agent market and added the best available quarterback. Still, Darnold could be primed for regression with a lesser supporting cast than he had in Minnesota.”

The Seahawks need a couple of older players to find the fountain of youth and their gamble on Darnold to pay off to match or improve on their 10-win season in 2024,” Moton concluded.

The Seahawks’ explosive offseason makes them an unknown in the NFC West. Macdonald possesses the ingredients required to field a productive squad in 2025. We’ll see how Schneider’s bold gambles pay off.
