While the Cincinnati Bengals await an apparent verdict on the Zack Moss injury, the team added Samaje Perine in free agency to work in a rotation alongside workhorse Chase Brown.
But should the Bengals consider adding a free agent like Nick Chubb?
It’s an idea proposed recently in fantasy football circles for obvious reasons—a healthy Chubb in a Joe Burrow offense would probably put up some huge numbers.
Over in reality…the move might make some sense, too. Chubb is 29 now, yet still averages better than 5.1 yards per carry for his career. While he averaged just 3.3 last year over eight games, projecting him into a totally different offense that should have some wider running lanes makes it easier to overlook that.
Injuries, of course, are the big problem. Chubb started last year on PUP after coming back from the devastating knee injury, only to suffer a season-ending broken foot in Week 15.
But that red flag is likely a big reason Chubb is still available and will likely be forced into taking a prove-it deal. Spotrac projects his market as a one-year, $3.3 million deal. That’s nothing for the Bengals, especially with Moss a $4.8 million cap hit in 2025.
Chubb could be a shrewd move for a win-now Bengals team. His arrival wouldn’t eat into Brown’s overall touches total, nor would it stop the team from drafting another back. But he’d be one heck of a rotational contributor who could help keep Brown fresh all season while limiting his own exposure to injuries.
Granted, Chubb has to want to join the other Ohio AFC North team. But if the goal is contending and finding a strong fit in a good offense, the Bengals have to look pretty good to him — and vice versa.
