Aaron Rodgers could be close to signing — but insider Ray Fittipaldo recently argued that another veteran free agent QB could be in play if the situation between Pittsburgh and the four-time MVP turns dire.
During Tuesday’s Steelers chat on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Fittipaldo was asked if the Steelers would target another veteran free agent QB if Rodgers didn’t sign — and this was his response:
“Carson Wentz is still out there. Maybe one or two other vets like him. I think they would try to get one of those guys before keeping [Skylar] Thompson, but Thompson does have some experience, just not a lot.”
Thompson has just three starts under his belt — while Wentz or other veteran free agent QBs like Tyler Huntley or Ryan Tannehill offer much more reliable experience to either compete with or back up Steelers QB Mason Rudolph if Rodgers doesn’t sign.
