The Pittsburgh Steelers unleashed a flurry of roster moves — signing and releasing several players ahead of their preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
On Tuesday, the Steelers announced the signings of CB Kam Alexander, LS Jake McQuaide, and OT Julian Pearl. To make room for the new additions, LB Devin Harper, NT Breiden Fehoko, and fan-favorite WR Roc Taylor — whose strong camp performance and impressive preseason outings ultimately couldn’t secure him a roster spot — were released.
One potential theory as to why the Steelers parted ways with the underrated wide receiver ahead of Thursday’s preseason matchup is that Gabe Davis, who’s reportedly visiting Pittsburgh for the second time this offseason, is set to join the Steel City offense — leaving Taylor expendable.
Alexander and Pearl bolster the Steelers’ depth at cornerback and offensive tackle respectively, while McQuaide fills in for LS Christian Kuntz — who is reportedly dealing with a serious injury that could force him to miss significant time.
