In the opening quarter of Game 1 of their opening round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors were dealt a difficult hand early with the loss of a key player due to an injury in the first quarter. With the opening quarter winding down, Steph Curry exited the game with an apparent leg injury. The All-Star point guard was later ruled out for the remainder of Game 1 with a left hamstring strain.
In only 13 minutes, Curry scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with three made triples in Game 1 against the Timberwolves.
Following Golden State’s impressive 99-88 win in Game 1, Steve Kerr provided a small update regarding Curry’s status against the Timberwolves. Kerr revealed Curry is “day-to-day” and will undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Kerr says he was able to talk to Curry at halftime during Game 1 and the four-time champion is “obviously crushed.”
In 13 minutes in Game 1, Curry scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with a trio of made triples against the Timberwolves before exiting the game. Curry helped fuel an early run for the Warriors to take a double-digit lead. Curry tallied five straight points as the Warriors grabbed a 30-20 lead before his exit.
With Curry out, Buddy Hield picked up right where he left off in Game 7 against the Houston Rockets. After an ice-cold start, Hield tallied 24 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the field with five made 3-pointers to help the Warriors secure a pivotal win in Game 1, 99-88. Hield finished Game 1 with a team-best +22.
Gripping to an early 1-0 lead, the Warriors will get Wednesday off before suiting up for Game 2 on Thursday in Minnesota.
