Stephen A Smith criticizes Kim Mulkey after interaction with the media

LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey faced backlash from one of ESPN’s top commentators following her remarks at Sunday’s postgame press conference.

Stephen A. Smith talked about Mulkey’s response to a reporter’s question about missing the Final Four two years in a row on ESPN’s First Take.

“I’m not going to take away from the fact that Kim Mulkey is a great coach and an established coach,” Smith said. “We just need to finally say this about her: she’s very rude.”

After falling to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight, Mulkey responded to a reporter’s question by asking, “Have you ever been to a Final Four?” The reporter responded no to which Mulkey offered a quick wink and grin.

Mulkey is known for her candid responses following her team’s play. She’s vocal about the accomplishments of her teams every season, especially this year, with half of her team never making it to the Sweet Sixteen. However, Mulkey’s comment seemed to be in jest. Those used to Mulkey have seen her back-and-forth dynamic with the media.
