Tenino splits a doubleheader in Montesano

By The Chronicle staff

The Tenino baseball team salvaged the finale in its series against Montesano on Friday, winning Game 2 of the doubleheader 14-10 after losing Game 1 5-2 to earn a split.

The Beavers were shut down throughout nearly all of Game 1, until they scored two in the seventh to prevent being shut out.

The offense came alive in the nightcap, though, as Tenino scored two in the first, four in the third, and four in the sixth and seventh to win a shootout.

Montesano had a couple big innings of its own, including four in the first and five in the third to immediately respond to Tenino’s first two big innings, but the Beavers held the Bulldogs to just one run in the final four innings.

Jude Letich pitched those four innings, allowing just two hits and the one run while walking two and striking out four.

Hunter Sweet drove in four runs, and Mason Metcalf drove in two. Will Feltus, Austin Gonia, Leland White, and Letich each added RBIs, while Feltus and Gonia also combined for five hits.

By grabbing the finale of the three-game series, the Beavers remain just one game behind Montesano in the 1A Evergreen standings.

Tenino (11-2, 4-2 1A Evergreen) will head to Elma on Tuesday for another league matchup.
