Texas A&M baseball defeats Sam Houston 14-1 on Tuesday night

Texas A&M (17-15, 3-9 SEC) took care of business on the road against Sam Houston, who entered the game with eight wins. It was crucial for the Aggies not to slip up after defeating then No. 1-ranked Tennessee by a combined 26-9 in Saturday’s doubleheader series win. However, a quick 1-0 deficit had fans worried that the team had fallen back into its inconsistent ways.

Starting on the mound, freshman Gavin Lyons, who ended up having a solid three-inning outing, allowed a solo home run before locking back in, and from then on, the Aggie bats came alive. Trailing heading into the third, Wyatt Hensler’s single drove in Jace LaViolette, leading to Bear Harrison’s RBI single and A&M breaking the game wide open in the fourth.

Every Aggie star contributed to the scoring column, as Caden Sorrell, Harrison, and Kaeden Kent increased the Aggies’ lead to 5-1. At the same time, the much-maligned Blake Binderup, who started in place of the injured Gavin Kash, recorded an RBI double to cap off a five-run fourth inning.

Home runs weren’t needed against the Bearkats, as the Aggies added seven more runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh frames before forcing the run rule, which has been a common theme during midweek games this season. Nearly every starter produced at the plate, but Caden Sorrell and Wyatt Henseler’s 3-3 showing is what’s needed moving forward.

However, freshman Terrence Kiel continues to impress, recording two hits while his defense continues to shine. After Lyons was relieved on the mound, Caden McCoy, Clayton Freshcorn, Luke Jackson, and Brad Rudis recorded 10 strikeouts, blanking the Bearkats for another solid performance from the bullpen.

The Aggies took care of business with South Carolina looming, and as we know, confidence and momentum is everything, and tonight’s performance is a good sign of what we should see this weekend.

Texas A&M will host South Carolina starting Thursday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. CT.
