Kain Medrano is a Washington Commander.
Medrano was selected 205th overall in the sixth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
He joins a long list of Pueblo natives to be in the NFL and is the first to be drafted in decades.
The Pueblo East Eagle alumni is one of several UCLA Bruins to be drafted, including teammate Carson Schwesinger, who was drafted in the second round by the Cleveland Browns.
Medrano is expected to compete immediately for a special team’s roster spot and could potentially work his way into the lineup in sub-packages.
Here is what the Commanders are getting in Medrano
Medrano came out of this year’s NFL Combine as the fastest linebacker with a 4.46 forty-time, which is tied for the second fastest in NFL Combine history.
In his career at UCLA, Medrano amassed 192 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and 3 interceptions.
For his senior year, Medrano had his best year as a Bruin with 56 total tackles, four deflected passes, one and a half sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.
As a Pueblo East Eagle, he helped the team to the 2016 State Championship in Class 3A and was the 2018 State Runner-up. He was an all-state selection in 2018 and all-league selection from 2016-18.
He is tied for the Pueblo East single-season record in interceptions with seven in one season.
