The 2025 Commanders are going to be part of the Kansas City Chiefs, making history.
It is evident to all NFL fans who follow the league closely enough that the NFL wanted Jayden Daniels and Patrick Mahomes in as many visible games as possible. As a result, both the Commanders and Chiefs are scheduled to play in the most standalone games (eight) during the 2025 season.
The Chiefs’ schedule is not only widely visible but also contains a first in NFL history. Warren Sharp brought it to his readers’ attention this week that the Kansas City Chiefs will become the first team in NFL history to play in five prime-time games (now get this) in the first eight weeks of the season.
Chiefs fans are absolutely going to love watching their team play in big national television games; however, five in the first eight weeks is going to result in many other NFL fans becoming tired of watching the Chiefs in prime time and wanting to see someone else.
How does this involve the Commanders? Well, the Chiefs will play prime-time games against the Chargers (WK 1), Giants (WK3), Jaguars (WK 5), and Lions (WK 6). Then, about the time NFL fans are sick of watching the Chiefs in prime time, the Commanders travel to Kansas City for a Week 8 Monday Night Showdown, which no doubt the league will market as Patrick Mahomes vs. Jayden Daniels.
Don’t fall for it. The league used to love to do this with Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning. But football is not basketball. Just as Brady and Manning were NEVER on the field at the same time, so too, Mahomes and Daniels will NEVER be on the field simultaneously. The actual matchups will be Mahomes going up against the Commanders’ defense, while Daniels squares off against the Chiefs’ defense.
Another circumstance NFL fans are tired of seeing is the networks parading Taylor Swift in front of the cameras many times during a game. It’s sort of insulting to the real diehard Chiefs fans who have stood by their team for decades. Commanders fans will have to put up with pop culture’s idolization of Swift during the MNF Week 8 contest at Arrowhead Stadium.
Not me. I will be operating under my usual procedure of muting the television analysts, as I watch Commanders games, while listening to the Washington Commanders broadcast team of Bram Weinstein (play-by-play), London Fletcher (analyst) and Logan Paulsen (analyst).
Commanders fans, trust me, these guys know more about the Commanders than television analysts could possibly know, seeing as they cover the league broadly each week. Give it a shot, cue up your TV and radio, and enjoy.
