Trail Blazers host draft workout with Dink Pate, others

Former Mexico City Capitanes guard Dink Pate is among the prospects scheduled to work out with the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, according to team reporter Casey Holdahl.

Pate averaged 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 30.7% shooting from 3-point range in 50 games with the Capitanes in the G League. He registered four 20-point games, including a season-high 26 points, six rebounds and four assists on Dec. 20.

The 19-year-old was among seven G League players selected to the Rising Stars Game at NBA All-Star Weekend in February. He averaged 4.5 points and four rebounds in two games as the group lost in the championship game to the likes of Stephon Castle, Keyonte George and Dalton Knecht.

Joining Pate in the workout were Florida sophomore Rueben Chinyelu, Texas sophomore Devon Pryor, Ben Henshall of Perth (NBL), Wisconsin sophomore John Blackwell and Lachlan Olbrich of Illawarra (NBL). It is the first known workout for the Trail Blazers in this draft cycle.

The Trail Blazers enter the predraft process with only one pick, a first-round selection currently slotted 10th before the lottery on May 12. They are drafting in the lottery for the fourth consecutive year after taking Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson and Donovan Clingan over that span.

The group the Trail Blazers hosted on Tuesday features mostly underclassmen who are not currently projected to be drafted. The team likely wanted to prioritize bringing in those players who are testing the process or could be targeted as undrafted free agents after the draft.

The 2025 NBA draft will occur June 25-26 in New York City.
