NFC South divisional matchups tend to be pretty volatile, especially when all the teams in the division are performing below their expected level. 2025 is a prime example of that, with the New Orleans Saints sweeping the division-leading Carolina Panthers and winning one of their two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. With the division title still up for grabs heading into Week 16, it is going to be a fascinating time to see how the games pan out.
Week 15 went well for the Saints, though, as they took their fourth win of the season by a slim margin, which was orchestrated by rookie quarterback Tyler Shough and his fourth-quarter drive setting up a Charlie Smyth game-winning field goal. This is the second game in a row where Shough has shown immense poise under late-game pressure, and after the victory, it was noted that he has joined some elusive company by doing so.

The Saints’ public relations account put out the statistic that Shough is the first quarterback for the franchise to put together back-to-back matchups with a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime since Drew Brees in 2020.
Shough has shown tons of promise in his first set of starts, and it is clear that he is only improving as time goes on. Having him be able to really lock in when the lights come on and dissect opposing defenses late in games is just a testament to his resiliency and experience at the position. Giving him a full offseason to prepare as the starting quarterback may help him take that next step into stardom.
