USC moves up to No.17 in latest College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings

LOS ANGELES, CA — The USC Trojans find themselves up a few ranks in the latest College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings as they rise to No. 17.

Despite the rise of rankings by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, the job will not get easier for the Trojans as the true bulk of Southern California’s schedule begins this Saturday against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes were bumped down in the polls from last week following their nail-biter of a loss against Oregon, as they now rank at No. 21.

The Trojans are coming off yet another win at home last Friday, crushing the Northwestern Wildcats 38-17, and notched their seventh win of their campaign. When you look at the odds of USC making a playoff push, a lot of minute factors come into play.

Firstly, if the Trojans can win out the rest of their schedule, which includes the previously mentioned Hawkeyes and a date with Oregon on the road following that, the Trojans can potentially make some conversation in the Playoff Committee meetings. But with that comes the head-to-head matchups USC has under its belt, which includes beating Michigan a month ago, and they are right behind the Trojans at No.18.

If the USC Trojans can win out against a top-25 team in Iowa and somehow escape Eugene with a road win against the No.8 Ducks, there is no telling how the committee will rule in favor of the Trojans. Still, Southern California must get past the Hawkeyes at home before the conversation of a playoff spot could even transpire as a thought to the committee.
