Actor Vidyut Jammwal has voiced his support for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who recently faced legal action over his satirical remarks about Maharashtra’s political situation. Taking to social media, Jammwal shared a thought-provoking post referencing the Bhagavad Gita and questioning the selective outrage against comedians while figures like Kamaal R Khan (KRK), known for his derogatory remarks about India and women, continue unchecked.
Vidyut Jammwal supports Kunal Kamra, calls out Kamaal R Khan for ‘taking refuge but spewing venom against the country’
Along with sharing a video featuring Kunal Kamra and some unfavourable comments made by Kamaal R Khan in the past, Vidyut Jammwal wrote: “GITA CHAPTER 2 VERSE 31 – “स्वधर्ममपि चावेक्ष्य न विकम्पितुमर्हसि। धर्म्याद्धि युद्धाच्छ्रेयोऽन्यत् क्षत्रियस्य न विद्यते॥” MEANING – Kshatriya, you should not waver, for there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a “RIGHTEOUS WAR.” Here is man, taking refuge out of the country, drawing attention by spewing venom against the country and even worse, our women. No one stops to question his intent or mobilises to bring him down. But we will take a stand up comedian to task- for evoking strong emotions because of his act. Do we uphold the rights of Politicians over our Nation and our Women?”
The post gained significant traction, with several celebrities rallying behind Jammwal’s stance. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor commented, “Those who follow him enable him! Good on uuuuuuuu for calling him out.” Singer Mansi Scott wrote, “Well said Vidyut Jammwal,” while actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee responded with hands-up emojis. Actress Richa Chadha, who has previously taken legal action against KRK, remarked, “I took him to court. Why can’t others?”
The controversy began when Kunal Kamra performed a parody song at Mumbai’s Habitat Comedy Club, referring to an unnamed politician as a ‘gaddar’ (traitor). Although no names were mentioned, members of the Shiv Sena took offense, interpreting it as an insult to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Subsequently, legal action was taken against Kamra, sparking a debate over freedom of speech.
Jammwal’s post, followed by the growing support from other celebrities, has reignited discussions on selective accountability, questioning why figures like Kamaal R Khan continue to make inflammatory statements without facing similar repercussions.
