The Minnesota Vikings need some upgrades at the cornerback position, despite bringing back Byron Murphy Jr. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has shown he will invest in the area, which makes the latest pick for them in ESPN’s mock draft one that is likely.
Field Yates published his latest mock draft and went two rounds deep. In the process, he gave the Vikings Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron. The former Longhorn is seen as a safer pick in the secondary and has some flexibility to play in both man and zone assignments.
Yates explains the pick, writing, “Minnesota spent big to upgrade its defensive interior, but it also has to ensure its secondary does not drop off too much in 2025. The cornerback room lost Stephon Gilmore and Shaquill Griffin, and Byron Murphy Jr. — who returned on a new deal — is a better fit in the slot. Barron could claim one of the starting outside spots. He is one of the most instinctive players in the entire class, showing an ability to find the football from any alignment. His versatility would surely appeal to defensive coordinator Brian Flores, and he posted five interceptions and 10 pass breakups in 2024.”
Barron would be an immediate starter for the Vikings and would become a star pupil for Brian Flores. He would have a chance to make an impact on day one and take pressure off Murphy Jr. to have an interception in every game like he did in 2024.
Dream pick and fit for both him and the Vikings.
