Ohio State is in the middle of another tough road test, taking on No. 17 Illinois in Champaign. With the opening drive, the Buckeyes drove down the field but came away with only three points after Ryan Day opted not to go for it on fourth and two.
It was then the Fighting Illini’s turn. Luke Altmyer was moving his team down the field with a couple first downs. Then came a third and medium for Illinois, and the Silver Bullets came away with the first big play of the game.
With starting Nickel cornerback Lorenzo Styles out with an injury, Jermaine Mathews Jr. slid over to fill that role, and true freshman Devin Sanchez moved into Mathews’ spot. Altmyer spotted a receiver on a quick slant, and Mathews pounced, knocking the ball off target and popping it up in the air. Linebacker Payton Pierce found the magic bean for the interception and return. Watch the momentum-shifting turnover below courtesy of Fox College Football.
