The Cooper Kupp saga continues.
The Denver Broncos were believed to be in the mix for the veteran wide receiver, but The Athletic has reported Denver is not pursuing Kupp. That same report from Dianna Russini also indicated the Houston Texans and New England Patriots won’t sign Kupp.
Meanwhile, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports has reported the Jacksonville Jaguars are “not in on Kupp.” Early Friday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Dallas Cowboys had emerged as a “sleeper team” for Kupp. About an hour and a half later, Schefter backtracked and said the Cowboys “are not considered the likely landing spot.”
So, what teams are left?
Russini has mentioned the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle seems like a logical fit. Kupp was born and raised in Yakima, Washington before playing college football at Eastern Washington. He has a connection with Seattle pass game coordinator Jake Peetz from their time with the Rams, and the Seahawks need a top wide receiver after trading DK Metcalf.
Joining a division rival would also give Kupp an opportunity to prove a point to L.A. after being released by his club of the last eight years.
Russini has reported Kupp is seeking around $13 million to $14 million per season, but she believes $11 million to $12 million could be a more realistic outcome. Either range would likely be too much for the Broncos unless they create more salary cap space.
Right now, it looks like Denver is not interested, at least at Kupp’s asking price. We’ll see if that changes. Multiple reports have indicated Kupp should make his decision soon.
