Anthony Richardson didn’t look like part of the Indianapolis Colts’ future in 2025. The former fourth overall pick lost his starting job to Daniel Jones. Then, he was forced to watch the embattled former New York Giant thrive in the offense Richardson had struggled to operate for more than a few plays at a time.

Week 14 changed things. Jones, already playing an a broken fibula, left a vital showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars with an Achilles injury. The speed with which he was ruled out suggests he may be done for the season. That’s a twist that would have put the ball back in Richardson’s hands — except he’s currently on injured reserve.

Richardson suffered a broken orbital during pre-game stretches in Week 6. That’s kept him off the field even as Jones played through his broken leg. It meant Riley Leonard took the field to close out Sunday’s game in Jacksonville.

Richardson is eligible to return from injured reserve this season. However, he has yet to be cleared to return to football activities. Jones’ injury may speed that timeline, but if Indianapolis needs a quarterback in Week 15, it may be Leonard’s chance to shine once more. His ramp-up is expected to be slow, but we could see him on the field in 2025.
