It’s becoming more clear who the Chargers could target on Day 1, with the likes of Michigan’s Kenneth Grant and Colston Loveland, Boston College edge defender Donovan Ezeiruaku, Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. But what about on Day 2?
Pro Football Focus identified the best Day 2 fits for all 32 teams, and for the Bolts, they listed Ole Miss EDGE Jared Ivey.
Despite lacking the lower-body flexibility to be a consistent speed threat as a 4-3 defensive end, Ivey would fit well on the inside of the Chargers 3-4 front. He makes great use of his punch to press the pocket and play off his bull rush, which helped generate his 87.0 PFF pass-rush grade versus true pass sets in 2024.
Adding an edge defender in the draft is a must. Khalil Mack is back, but it’s only on a one-year deal. Tuli Tuipulotu is ready to take on the role as a full-time starter in Year 3. But they must start thinking about the future of the position and getting someone capable of playing opposite Tuipulotu for seasons to come.
Ivey is a good player, but is more of a power rusher. The Chargers already have that in the edge defender room, so they would benefit from adding one with speed and burst. Players who fit that billing on Day 2 include Michigan’s Josaiah Stewart and LSU’s Bradyn Swinson.
