WNBA All-Star Makes Paige Bueckers Statement on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Dallas Wings (1-9) will host the Phoenix Mercury (6-4) in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup at PHX Arena in Arizona on Wednesday.
The Wings have struggled out of the gate, sitting last in the WNBA standings after a poor start marked by multiple injuries and close losses.
Meanwhile, Phoenix has climbed into second place in the West behind balanced scoring and a top-four defensive rating (97.0).
Satou Sabally, the former Dallas All-Star forward now in her sixth WNBA season, was asked on Tuesday about the Wings’ No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.
Sabally, who joined Phoenix via trade this offseason after being Dallas’s second overall pick in 2020, didn’t hold back:
“It’s amazing. Paige is such a phenomenal player. She can score on every single level. She can facilitate. She gets in there and really plays with poise and calmness. I’ve been a fan of hers since college days, so I’m actually happy she’s with us.”

A 6-foot-4 forward out of Oregon, Sabally quickly earned WNBA All-Rookie honors in 2020 and a 2021 All-Star selection.
In 2023, she took home Most Improved Player and All-WNBA first team honors.
This season, Sabally has thrived in Phoenix, leading her team in points (20.5 PPG), rebounds (7.7 RPG), assists (3.0 APG) and steals (1.7 SPG) across the first 10 contests.
On the other side, you have Bueckers, the former UConn star fresh off leading the Huskies to the 2025 NCAA championship.
Her transition to the professional ranks has taken a pause due to a concussion that sidelined her for three games and a minor illness that kept her off the court in the Wings’ loss to Minnesota on Sunday.
On Tuesday, however, Dallas announced that Bueckers had cleared concussion protocol and was expected to suit up against Phoenix.
As the Wings and Mercury prepare for tip-off tomorrow, all eyes will be on whether Dallas’s top pick can ignite a team desperate for wins.
