Would trading Jaylen Brown be a mistake for the Celtics?

Jaylen Brown will lead the Boston Celtics next season. He will step into the void left behind by Jayson Tatum, who will miss the 2025-26 campaign due to injury. Brown’s scoring and improved playmaking make him the most logical option to lead Joe Mazzulla’s roster throughout the year.

However, there is a slight chance Brad Stevens could part with Brown before he gets the chance to establish himself as the Celtics’ number one guy. Brown’s five-year $285.3 million deal could entice Stevens to find a willing trade partner. After all, the Celtics are a second-apron luxury tax team. Trading the Georgia native is a quick way to duck under that apron and avoid any penalties that come with it.

During a recent appearance on the “Celtics Beat” podcast, Dan Devine of Yahoo Sports warned that trading Brown could backfire. He noted how Boston wouldn’t get back fair value and would likely be a worse team after the deal was made.
