Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix received a 64.7 “Total QBR” rating from ESPN in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs last week, which ranked first among the four remaining QBs in the NFL playoffs. Nix’s traditional passer rating was 87.1.
Unlike a traditional passer rating, the Total QBR “incorporates all of a quarterback’s contributions to winning, including how he impacts the game on passes, rushes, turnovers and penalties,” according to ESPN.

The metric takes into account scenarios that a traditional passer rating overlooks and considers “a team’s level of success or failure on every play to provide the proper context and then allocates credit to the quarterback and his teammate to produce a clearer measure of quarterback efficiency.”
With that context in mind, here’s a look at how Nix and fill-in starter Jarrett Stidham stack up against the NFL’s other starting quarterbacks going into conference championship games. After Nix suffered a season-ending injury, Stidham is set to start his first game since 2023. Since he has not played yet this season, Stidham’s rating is from two games during the 2023 season.
NFL playoff QBs, ranked by Total QBR
-
Rams QB Matthew Stafford: 39.8
-
Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham: 31.8 (2023 regular season)
Stidham and the Broncos will host Maye and the Patriots in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. The winner of that matchup will advance to the Super Bowl.
