The Minnesota Vikings showed last year how vital their secondary is to their defensive success, especially how Brian Flores uses and schemes with each piece on that side of the ball.
The team brings back ball-hawking cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., but they added veterans in free agency, as well. They signed Isaiah Rodgers, as well as former top pick Jeff Okudah. While they are not household names, they are names that can produce results. Depending on who you ask, though, the Vikings could even ask for more help in their secondary as they head towards training camp.
The Athletic’s Alec Lewis spoke on the Purple Insider podcast and was asked about the idea of the team adding a cornerback like Jalen Ramsey or Jaire Alexander. His answer may not have the spark that Vikings fans will like but it could be what they need.
“I do strongly think they need another CB for depth… from a fit/locker room all that stuff, I’m not fully bought in there (the Vikings would be interested in Jalen Ramsey)… A player (on a 1-year deal like Jaire Alexander is) probably more of where I have my mind focused on.”
Jaire Alexander was a former All-Pro, just as Ramsey was, but the cost will be significantly less. That will be enough to make the difference in who Kwesi Adofo-Mensah should pursue.
