Randy Costa finally feels fulfilled with BKFC – and is hoping for Sturgis

MMA isn’t on hold for Randy Costa. It just has gotten a bit stale.

“I don’t want to do a regular fight against another prospect guy or a f*cking savage guy,” Costa recently told MMA Junkie. “I’m not interested in that. I’m good with that. I want to do things that are crazy, that are exciting, and I’m chasing thrills.”

It’s not easy for Costa to find thrills these days, at least not within the borders of the United States. An impulsive world traveler, who jokes (but is also very serious) about an addiction he has to randomly ending up at airports, Costa was drawn back to his native New England recently for a rare combat sports opportunity that actually excited him.

Costa debuted in BKFC on June 14 and defeated Nick Burgos by first-round stoppage.

“It was super fun,” Costa said. “I wanted to do a boxing match since I started training. Boxing was the first real martial art that I was training. So this felt good. It’s weird. There was no pressure. I never thought I felt pressure in any fight ever, but there was always some weird pressure with MMA. With boxing, there was nothing. It was so fun. It was so f*cking fun.”

Costa’s combat sports journey, much like his world travels, has not been by the books. Inked to the UFC at age 24 with only four pro fights under his belt, he competed six times for the promotion from 2019 to 2022 and went 2-4.

Since then, it’s been difficult for him to find any fights – never mind one that excites him. But he’s found something different with BKFC. It fulfills his craving for savagery, and conversely, he thinks he fills a void for the promotion.

“I think I have what they are looking for, what their blueprint is,” Costa said. “I think I have all those things. They have a bunch of killers – a bunch of f*cking killers in BKFC, especially around my weight class. But the thing they’re lacking is marketing. Everybody knocks everybody out and nobody talks about it. Nobody talks about themselves or their life. I couldn’t name 10 guys in BKFC at featherweight or bantamweight. But everybody is a f*cking killer. But there’s no marketing. So I think I could bring something that’s a little more colorful, a little bit more playful and an exciting style, obviously, with the way I carry myself, the way I represent myself. I think that I have the pieces that a lot of guys don’t have with BKFC.”

The recent win at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. was a one-off with the promotion. Costa is hoping, and expecting, the promotion calls him back considering how the debut went.

If it’s up to him, there’s no question where and when Costa wants to make his return. What’s more unique than fighting at the largest motorcycle rally in the world?

BKFC returns to Sturgis Motorcyle Rally in Sturgis, S.D. on Aug. 2. The festival attracts upward of 500,000 people. Costa wants to be one of them. Though he’s not a biker, Costa doesn’t think it’ll be an issue assimilating in.

“I feel like I have a little bit of a position to be asking for a spot on that because of what I bring to the table, in terms of my style, my excitement, the way I promote, the way I market,” Costa said. “I feel like that’s what those kind of shows, that market, they would love that. They’d chew it all up with the style I have. The savage biker market will be like, ‘Who is this crazy bastard? This guy is f*cking cooked.'”
