Chiranjeevi is celebrating his 71st birthday on August 22, 2026. While the Megastar has already unveiled the first glimpse of his upcoming project, director PS Mithran has opened up about an earlier plan to collaborate with the actor.
Sardar 2 director PS Mithran on project with Chiranjeevi
Speaking with Cinema Vikatan, PS Mithran revealed that he was initially supposed to work with Chiranjeevi after Vishwambhara. The director had narrated a story to the actor, but the project could not move forward as their schedules did not align.
Mithran also clarified that the story he narrated to Yash is different from the one he had written for Chiranjeevi. He confirmed that the Chiranjeevi script is still with him, leaving the possibility of their collaboration open. The project was reportedly planned under KVN Productions, which is currently backing Kaaka (Mega158).
Director PS Mithran is currently working on Sardar 2, which continues the espionage saga established in the 2022 film Sardar. Karthi reprises his dual roles as the father-son duo, Vijay Prakash and Chandra Bose, aka Sardar, while SJ Suryah plays the primary antagonist, Black Dagger. The film is set to release on September 10, 2026.
The film also stars Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, and Rajisha Vijayan. The first film followed police officer Vijay Prakash as he uncovered the truth about his father, an intelligence officer who was branded a traitor after sacrificing his reputation to protect the country.
The original movie followed Vijay Prakash, an officer who tries to make a name for himself while overcoming the negative perception surrounding his father, Chandra Bose, aka Sardar, who is accused of being a traitor. Years later, Vijay learns the truth about his father and discovers that he had taken the blame to protect his country. After decades apart, Vijay reunites with his father as they face the same threat.

Kaaka is touted to be an action entertainer led by Chiranjeevi with an intense emotional backdrop. Anaswara Rajan and Nivetha Pethuraj are confirmed to be part of the cast, while reports suggest that Anaswara may play Chiranjeevi’s daughter. However, the makers are yet to officially confirm the character details.
Thaman S is composing the music for the film. Earlier known as Mega158, Kaaka is scheduled to release on January 13, 2027, coinciding with the Sankranti festival.
