The Arizona Diamondbacks were one game away from tying their longest win streak since 2024, but lost a close 3-2 matchup with the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field on Friday night.
Despite another high-quality outing by right-hander Michael Soroka, the Diamondbacks’ bullpen did not have a solid night, nor did the offense, which was held to just two runs for the second straight night.
After Corbin Carroll’s walk-off knock Thursday night, the Diamondbacks struggled against Rockies right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano for the second time this season, only managing to scrape together two runs, both courtesy of Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Gurriel, however, exited the game early after injuring his hamstring while making a sliding catch in left field. He walked off the field on his own power alongside a trainer in the fifth inning, with the official word from the team being left hamstring tightness.
Gurriel will undergo an MRI on his hamstring tomorrow, Jose Romero of AZCentral reports, and is currently considered day-to-day.

Michael Soroka had a bit of a strange outing, despite how effective the box score may look.
He threw six innings and allowed only one earned run on six hits and zero walks, but also struck out just two batters. He picked up eight whiffs, but only landed three pitches for called strikes. Strangely enough, Soroka’s velocity was significantly down. His four-seam fastball averaged 92 MPH and his sinker averaged 91.3 MPH, both around two ticks down from his season average.
And despite being at just 78 pitches coming out of his sixth inning, he was pulled for right-hander Taylor Clarke, who threw a scoreless seventh.
There did not appear to be any legitimate indication that Soroka was dealing with an injury, but it is a bit strange to see him pulled that early with a downtick in velocity. It may have been as simple as matchups, or wanting to get Soroka a relatively short outing to help keep him fresh.
But the D-backs’ bullpen were not able to hold the 2-1 lead. Righty Juan Morillo, after a shaky outing Thursday, was given the eighth inning. He allowed the tying run to score, and was pulled after 0.2 innings for Brandyn Garcia.
Garcia ended the threat in the eighth, but Ryan Thompson came out for an ugly ninth, in which he was bit for the go-ahead run. That would be all the Rockies needed, as the D-backs’ offense squandered seven hits and one walk, going 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranding six baserunners.
