Emi Martinez pushes for Manchester United move, Antony willing to take pay cut to join Real Betis – Paper Round

Martinez wants Man Utd move

The World Cup winner may be frustrated in his ambition, with current Old Trafford No. 1 Andre Onana not interested in leaving.

The paper writes: “Andre Onana plans to reject interest from Monaco to establish himself as the No. 1 at Manchester United.

“The French club have been in touch with the Cameroon goalkeeper’s camp in recent days about a possible move.

“Clubs in Saudi Arabia have also shown interest in Onana, but he is determined to fight for his future with United.

“Aston Villa’s World Cup winner Emi Martinez is pushing for a move to United and could be available this summer.”

Antony ready for Betis move

Antony’s impressive loan spell at Real Betis has left the Brazilian tempted to make the move a permanent one.

Now the Mirror reports that he would be willing to take a sizeable reduction in his salary to secure a transfer.

The paper states: “Manchester United wantaway star Antony is prepared to take a 30% pay cut to leave Old Trafford this summer. The winger’s decision has boosted the hopes of interested parties, namely Real Betis, of being able to complete a deal.

“Antony is said to currently rake in £150,000-a-week with The Red Devils and is willing to lower his expectations to facilitate a move. The drop would still see him ask for £95,000-a-week.

“United are hoping to bring in a fee for the former Ajax winger to boost their funds this summer, with the club requiring £32.58 million to avoid a loss under the profit and sustainability rules. That figure is well short of the £85m United spent in 2022.”

Everton set to lose Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out of contract at Everton, but the two parties have continued to negotiate over a potential new deal.

However, The Athletic believes it is likely that no agreement will be found, and Everton are tracking Thierno Barry as a potential replacement.

The website explains: “Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity to protect relationships, suggest that the most likely outcome with Calvert-Lewin remains a departure. Talks up to now have not yielded much progress, with the club keen to remain disciplined in their negotiating position. The 28-year-old is likely to want a long-term deal on lucrative terms.

“The uncertainty there, together with Armando Broja’s return to Chelsea, has increased the prospect of Everton dipping into the market for a striker. The Athletic was first to report interest in Villarreal’s Thierno Barry this month and the 22-year-old remains a key target.

“Everton’s pursuit of Barry is complicated by his participation at the Under-21 European Championship with France, plus a lofty release clause set at €40m. The club would prefer to negotiate with Villarreal rather than trigger that clause.”

Chelsea would profit from Guehi move to Liverpool

Chelsea may miss out on re-signing Marc Guehi, but they may benefit if he joins Liverpool from Crystal Palace instead.

With a sell-on clause included in the original transfer from Chelsea, the Daily Star writes that The Blues could be due £8 million if Liverpool pay £40m for the England defender.

The paper claims: “Chelsea could be in line for a windfall of more than £8 million this summer, thanks to Liverpool’s latest transfer manoeuvre.

“The Blues will no doubt welcome any financial boost to help them adhere to the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability rules, and a clause agreed in 2021 might just pay dividends in the coming weeks. Liverpool are said to be gearing up to make a ‘significant’ offer for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

“They’re eyeing the England centre-back as a replacement for Jarell Quansah, who is poised to join Bayer Leverkusen in a £35 million switch. Despite having only a year left on his contract, Guehi could command a price tag of £40m or more.”
