‘God has got my back’ — Battered Sam Alvey reacts to brutal knockout loss at Karate Combat 58 | Video

Things did not go as planned for former UFC veteran Sam Alvey last night (Fri., Dec. 5, 2025) at Karate Combat 58 from Doral, Fla., as “Smile’n” snapped his five-fight unbeaten streak with a vicious knockout loss to towering striker Robelis Despaigne. In turn, Alvey coughed up his Karate Combat heavyweight title.

Believe it or not, Alvey has rejuvenated his career since parting ways with UFC back in 2022. Entering Friday night, the combat veteran had turned in a 4-0 (1 NC) record under the Karate Combat banner, including two successful heavyweight title defenses. The 39-year-old fighter has simply been on a tear.

Unfortunately for Alvey, he ran into an equally-dangerous striker on Friday night and ended up getting finished for the first time in over two years. It came in the second round when Despaigne landed a devastating head kick knockout that left Alvey out for the count.

After the loss, Alvey took to social media to send a message to his fans. The former UFC veteran appeared to be in pretty good spirits, but the loss was still a tough one to swallow.
