Hi Movie: Nayanthara equates her film to Dhanush’s Yaaradi Nee Mohini, calls it ‘little modern but smaller’

Hi, starring Nayanthara and Kavin in the lead roles, is slated to release in theatres on August 28, 2026. In a recent interaction with Pearle Maaney, Nayanthara compared the upcoming romantic comedy to her 2008 film Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

Speaking with Pearle Maaney, Nayanthara said, “Hi is a sweet love story. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen something like this, like…Yaaradi Nee Mohini kinda film. Maybe a little Modern and a smaller version of it. That film had a lot of people with a huge family.  We also have a good-sized family. But this would be a compact, budget-friendly family.”

For those unaware, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, starring Dhanush and Nayanthara, follows Vasudevan, an unemployed middle-class youth who falls in love with Keerthi, a software professional engaged to his close friend Cheenu. Although Keerthi initially rejects Vasu, she eventually realises that she loves him. Cheenu discovers their relationship and sacrifices his own marriage to help the couple be together. Despite family opposition and misunderstandings, Vasu and Keerthi ultimately overcome the obstacles and begin their life together.

Directed by Mithran Jawahar, the film is a remake of Venkatesh Daggubati and Trisha Krishnan starrer Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, directed by Selvaraghavan.

From the trailer, Hi follows Mayilsamy, a young man who faces repeated disappointments in love and marriage. While searching for a suitable match, he meets Devayani, an unconventional woman who rejects him.

However, circumstances eventually force the two into marriage despite their one-sided relationship. The film explores whether Mayilsamy can turn this unexpected marriage into a genuine love story. Alongside Nayanthara and Kavin, the film features late actor Bhagyaraj, Prabhu, and Radikaa Sarathkumar in key roles.

Nayanthara’s work front

Nayanthara will next be seen in Yash’s action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. Set against a stylised underworld backdrop, the film follows Raya, whose life begins to unravel with the arrival of his son, Ticket.

The Kannada-English bilingual is scheduled to release in multiple Indian languages and is slated to hit theatres on August 26, 2026.
