Jorge Martin’s MotoGP future is ‘fixed’ despite release clause rumours, says Aprilia head Massimo Rivola at GP Germany – ‘We haven’t moved a finger’

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola has reaffirmed that the team expect Jorge Martin to remain with the team next season.

There has been a dispute rumbling between the world champion and the team over a clause in his contract.

It has been widely reported that Martin wished to activate a clause that frees him from his contract if the Aprilia bike is not competitive amongst the top riders.

However, a string of injuries have kept the rider from competing on all but one race weekend this season.

Martin has been linked with a switch to Honda’s factory team, but their public statements have consistently denied that they would attempt to sign any rider under contract with another team.

There has been no resolution in either direction, and speaking to a press conference at Grand Prix Germany on Friday, Rivola again said that he expected Martin to stay put.

“Regarding the future, I have no news,” Rivola stated. “My position, our position, is still the same from day one. We haven’t moved a finger.

“There is no news because we think the future is already fixed. Obviously we are focused on that.

“We look forward and can’t wait to see him back. We told him ‘take your time’. Now we’ve given him more than he needs.

“In Misano [in a test] he was ready to do a last run, but I said ‘it’s okay’.”
