Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill Dead At 78 – Family Says Passing Was ‘Sudden & Unexpected’

Sam Neill has sadly passed away.

On Sunday night, the Jurassic Park actor’s family shared a statement to Instagram. They wrote in the post:

“It is with immense sadness that the whānau [extended family] of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia. Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.”

The post continued, revealing Sam’s passing to be “sudden and unexpected,” saying it didn’t have any relation to his previous cancer battle:

“The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care.”

Of course, you likely know Sam for his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, but he had a longstanding career in the entertainment industry. Other notable roles include his slots on Peaky Blinders, Possession, Event Horizon, The Piano, and Merlin.

Our heart goes out to Sam’s family. May he rest in peace.
