Millie Bobby Brown is sharing details of her life-changing trip to Japan!
In Monday’s episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, the Stranger Things alum opened up about how a deep mental health spiral was alleviated by a meditation session with Japanese monks! The Enola Holmes star revealed she was once “chased by somebody” and the experience “sent [her] into a three-month-long anxiety and panic attack” that affected EVERY aspect of her life, including work. So she decided to do something big to overcome it:
“I went to Japan and I sat with these monks and it was the most amazing experience. I’m getting teary eyed talking about it, but it took me out of the cycle. I needed it.”

The young mother recalled sitting in a temple garden with husband Jake Bongiovi and 50 other people to meditate:
“This one amazing gentleman who was, like, just so calm and almost felt like he saw me — I was in the height of my anxiety at this point, it was like he knew that I was kind of broken — he was like, ‘We need to meditate.’”
Wow!
The 22-year-old went on to rave about the experience:
“It was amazing. I will never forget the feeling.”
That’s so incredible!
Millie noted the trip to Japan was for Jake’s birthday, but that SHE ended up feeling like the one being treated to a gift:
“I remember being like, ‘I’m sorry, I feel like it’s my birthday. Finally, peace in my heart.’ And my husband literally said, ‘You radiated this light after.’”
She went on to gush about the support Jake constantly offers her through her mental health journey:
“My husband’s one of those people, he just never questions. He’s like, ‘What you’re telling me, this is your truth. Even if this is your anxiety, you’re still feeling it, it’s still happening to you.’”
We’re so happy to hear that!
Now, Millie says she is “still figuring it out,” but has techniques to help manage her anxiety:
“I knew I needed to get I needed to heal and I needed to figure out my anxiety before starting a family … I always say Jake was the best thing to ever happen to me and my daughter was the best thing to ever happen to us.”
We’re so happy for her! Listen to more (below):
