In what was an unexpected turn of events back in May, defensive lineman Jamir Perez chose to give his verbal commitment to Florida over Ohio State. The three-star lineman from Cleveland was crystal balled to land with the Buckeyes, but ended up picking the Gators. It was somewhat surprising considering Perez hails from Glenville High School, which has notoriously been a pipeline for OSU.
It seems all hope is not lost on Perez, and he may end up in Columbus after all. There has been a fair amount of smoke surrounding the young man’s commitment that suggests he may not be sold on playing in Gainesville. It was originally thought that Perez would pick Ohio State, and now there have been several crystal ball predictions that say he’ll flip his pledge from the Gators to the Buckeyes, the latest coming from Nick Osen of 247Sports. Perez himself posted on social media that there is a “Big announcement Friday!”
It may not seem like that big of a deal to get a three-star recruit to flip, but Ryan Day has been adamant about building a fence around Ohio and keeping the best players in state. For the most part he’s been successful at doing just that. Not to mention, Perez has the size at 6-foot-4 and 360 pounds to be the kind of space eater the Bucks need on the defensive line.
We’ll find out on Friday if the big news is indeed Perez flipping his commitment to the Buckeyes. It is also worth noting that Perez is the high school teammate of Cincere Johnson, a four-star linebacker and top-100 player in the country who recently committed to Ohio State.
