Every storyline surrounding the Chicago Bears in 2025 starts and ends with their offense. They hired offensive genius Ben Johnson to lead a group, led by second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, to the next level.
Johnson, who served as offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, helped Jared Goff and the offense become a Super Bowl-caliber unit. Chicago’s offense doesn’t have potential Hall of Famers like Frank Ragnow, Penei Sewell, or Amon-Ra St. Brown, but they have guys that could develop into special players.
Each position group on offense has a player to watch a bit more closely during training camp. This isn’t about the best player at each position. These are the most intriguing at this moment in time. Here’s one player to watch at each offensive position group ahead of training camp.
Quarterback: Caleb Williams
Everything revolves around Caleb Williams for the Bears. Even the defense needs him to take this team to the next level, as they can’t continue to be the only focal point in franchise history. Today’s NFL revolves around offense. Those who can score the most points have the most success in both the regular season and the playoffs. If Caleb Williams, who had a respectable rookie year, can become the star quarterback that the Bears have always lacked, they may finally start succeeding in this quarterback-driven league.
Running back: Kyle Monangai
The Bears have three running backs who will receive a relatively high level of carries in 2025, including D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. But Kyle Monangai, who Chicago selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft, is the one who must be watched more closely during training camp. While Swift and Johnson should get a bulk of the carries, Monangai can make the case for more reps with a strong training camp and preseason. He has a higher ceiling at this point than the two players ahead of him on the depth chart.
Wide receiver: Rome Odunze
While all eyes will be on DJ Moore and rookie Luther Burden III, second-year pro Rome Odunze has the ceiling of a superstar. Coming into camp this year, he has the potential to take over as the number one receiver of the Bears. Other players from his draft class, like Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., have turned into stars already. Now, it’s Odunze’s turn. During camp, his chemistry with Williams will continue to grow, making it must-see television. Keeping an eye on him will mean keeping an eye on his potential to become one of the team’s best players.
Tight end: Colston Loveland
This one is an easy decision. Out of every player to watch in camp, first-round pick Colston Loveland has high upside that makes him of the most exciting players to watch this summer. Loveland missed the entire offseason program as he recovers from shoulder surgery, but he’s expected to be full-go for the start of training camp. All eyes will be on Loveland as he makes his debut on the practice field this summer. Ben Johnson is going to run a lot of 12 personnel with Loveland and Cole Kmet. We’ve never witnessed what Loveland can do once he reaches this level of football. He has the tools around him to become a star.
Offensive line: Ozzy Trapilo
The Bears overhauled their offensive line this offseason and the starters are all but set with Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, Jonah Jackson and Darnell Wright. But there’s still a battle at left tackle between incumbent starter Braxton Jones, recovering from injury, Kiran Amegadjie and rookie Ozzy Trapilo, who’s already turning heads. Trapilo rotated at left tackle with Amegadjie during the offseason program, and he’ll have a good chance to win the starting job and contribute immediately as a rookie.
