Patriots begin roster cuts by reportedly releasing veteran guard

The New England Patriots reportedly started their round of massive roster cuts on Friday by releasing veteran guard Tyrese Robinson, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Robinson was claimed on waivers after being released by the Minnesota Vikings last season, and he initially looked competitive at left guard.

It has been a revolving door of Patriots players trying to fill the left guard position. That position could be locked down in the future by rookie interior offensive lineman Jared Wilson, but throughout the spring and training camp, it has been an open competition.

Robinson struggled to stand out for a Patriots coaching staff that is desperate for offensive line depth at nearly every position. The former undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma will now have an opportunity to sign with another team or end up on a practice squad.

There will be many more cuts to follow with the 53-man roster deadline set for Tuesday, August 26, at 4 p.m. ET.
