RB Choudary, the popular film producer and father of actor Jiiva, passed away on May 5, 2026. As the filmmaker’s funeral was held in Chennai, superstar Rajinikanth became emotional while speaking about their plans to collaborate once again for the producer’s 100th film, a project that will now never materialize.
Rajinikanth breaks down at RB Choudary’s funeral
Speaking to the media after attending the funeral, Rajinikanth broke down while recalling his conversations with RB Choudary and revealed that the producer had wanted to retire after completing his landmark 100th film with the superstar in the lead role.
The superstar said that Choudary had told him he had a few stories in mind and wanted him to listen to them. Quoted by India Today, he added, “I told him that I would do it 100 per cent. Two months ago, KS Ravikumar told me that Choudary sir had introduced many directors and that all of them should give him a grand send-off. He is a great man who introduced many directors, saved the industry, and provided work to several technicians.”
For those unaware, RB Choudary of Super Good Films reportedly passed away following a car accident in Rajasthan. The 79-year-old filmmaker’s sudden demise sent shockwaves across the film industry. Following his death, several actors, including Thalapathy Vijay, Mammootty, and more, arrived to pay their final respects.
Rajinikanth’s work front
Rajinikanth is next set to appear in Jailer 2. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action drama serves as a sequel to Jailer and will once again feature cameo appearances by Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar. Actors including Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu are also expected to be part of the cast. The film is reportedly targeting a mid-2026 release.
Looking ahead, the superstar was expected to collaborate with director Cibi Chakaravarthi for the tentatively titled Thalaivar173. However, due to recent developments, the director may reportedly opt out of the project, with Dragon fame Ashwath Marimuthu likely to step in with a new story. An official confirmation regarding the development is still awaited.
Moreover, the Coolie actor has also confirmed his reunion with Kamal Haasan for the tentatively titled KHxRK Reunion.
