The fallout of the NFL trade deadline continues to haunt the Pittsburgh Steelers — as the disappointing day becomes even harder to stomach with reports revealing that two wide receivers refused to play for the Steel City brand of football.
At the deadline, the Steelers were reportedly interested in trading for Rashid Shaheed and Jakobi Meyers — but both ultimately chose different landing spots than Pittsburgh.
According to Mark Kaboly, the Steelers offered the Raiders a similar trade package to that of the Jaguars’ offer for Meyers — but the talented wideout preferred playing for Jacksonville, leading Las Vegas to honor his wishes.
A report from DK Pittsburgh Sports’ Chris Halicke hinted at a similar situation with Shaheed, as the Saints honored his decision to play for his former OC Klint Kubiak in Seattle.
“According to a team source, Khan offered the Saints the same package as the Seahawks for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed — a fourth- and fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft,” Halicke wrote. “Shaheed preferred to go to Seattle to reunite with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, whom he played under last season in New Orleans, so the Saints accepted the package that honored their player’s wishes.”
It remains to be seen if the Steelers’ inability to acquire another wide receiver — excluding veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who signed with the practice squad — will prove troublesome as Pittsburgh prepares for a tough second half of the 2025 season.
