Left-hander Kody Funderburk returns to reinforce the Minnesota Twins’ bullpen
According to The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, left-hander Kody Funderburk will return to the Twins bullpen on Friday. The 29-year-old was placed on the paternity list on Tuesday and has a 1-1 record and a 2.00 ERA in 12 games.
To clear a space for Funderburk on the active roster, left-hander Kendry Rojas was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. Rojas was added to the roster when Funderburk went on paternity leave and pitched two innings and walked three in the Twins’ 3-2 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

The move to option Rojas makes sense, as he will be able to build himself up to join the starting rotation if needed. Right-hander Mick Abel landed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation, and the Twins need someone to replace him.
Left-hander Connor Prielipp would be an option, as he, too, was recalled to join the Twins on Wednesday. Prielipp threw four innings in the loss on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.
Abel’s spot in the rotation will come up on Monday against the Seattle Mariners. Pitching on Wednesday would put Prielipp to start.
