Will T.J. Watt participate at Steelers OTAs amid contract concerns?

History could repeat itself with T.J. Watt and a potential hold-in during the Steelers offseason — but we will know for certain at OTAs.

Back in 2021, Watt’s infamous hold-in lasted all offseason — until he signed a four-year contract extension worth $112 million just days before the regular season kicked off. A similar situation is fast approaching in 2025, as Steelers OTAs have arrived — and fans may get a glimpse as to whether or not Watt will stage another hold-in.

If Watt does hold in, it’s unlikely he’ll participate in any team practices — aiming to force the Steelers’ hand in extending him.

It has been rumored that Watt is seeking to surpass Myles Garrett’s historic four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns — but more specifically, his $123.5 million guaranteed.

The Steelers could have avoided the entire situation if they had extended Watt before Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby reset the market — and while time is still not on their side with Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons set to make extending Watt even more difficult — avoiding another 2021-like hold-in should be priority number one in Pittsburgh.
